SESSION HIGHLIGHTS
Much is going on at First United Presbyterian in Clinton!!

  • Joyce and Kolleen are working well together on the preaching schedules.    Session voted to change communion to the second Sunday of the month so that Joyce could do this when she is in the pulpit.  She will usually preach the second Sunday of the month and will have session that Sunday also.  There will always be occasional changes due to holidays, vacations and special events.

  • Kolleen is going to offer a Bible Study on Wednesday mornings from 9am – 10am beginning on September 21.  This will be an 8 week study on the Life and Ministry of the Messiah and will be held in the Pastor’s Study.  Anyone is welcome, members, friends and family.  People don’t have to attend every week, just come when you can.
  • Karla has changed her hours to 8am to 12noon, Monday - Thursday so that she can home school her two grandchildren at the church in the afternoons.  Karla and Joyce have re-arranged the library as a classroom and it is working out well.
  • RiverChor has started rehearsing on Monday nights in the Great Hall and they really appreciate having the space in our church.  We are glad to have them use our building.
  • Joyce is visiting our shut in members in the Clinton and Davenport area and has commented that she has had some delightful visits. She has visited our members in their homes, assisted living, nursing homes and the hospital.  I’m sure our members have enjoyed having her visit.
  • The piano will be tuned on September 16 so when you get this, the job will hopefully be done.
  • Mike Niles and his brother, Jack replaced the lights in the sanctuary and made some needed repairs to the wiring and sockets.  Thank you so much, Mike and Jack!!!!
  • Tom Fullerton is looking out for our financial welfare and recommending changes where beneficial.  So many people do things around the church behind the scenes.  Thank you everyone!!!
  • Joyce and Syd attended the monthly meeting of the Clinton Ministerial Association on September 6.  This group is planning a Community Thanksgiving Worship Service at Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday, November 17.  We will have more details after the next meeting on October 4.
  • I want to encourage you to attend the worship service, conversation and fellowship on Sunday, October 9.   More on this meeting is in Joyce’s article.  We will be having a lunch from the B&T Smokin’ BBQ who is using our great kitchen for their food truck business.  The session would like your input on the future of the First United Presbyterian Church.  Please plan to attend!!

Keep praying and listening for God’s direction for our church.
    Blessings,

    Syd Nixon, Clerk of Session
